The Bishop of Anglican Church, Egba Diocese, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Adekunle yesterday cautioned the in-coming administration not to fall into the temptation of putting in place an over bloated cabinet, all in the name of giving job to party faithful.

The Cleric who spoke in Abeokuta advised the President-in-waiting, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari to ensure that only competent, honest and hardworking persons with track records are appointed into public offices, if his administration is to make the much expected difference.

In doing this, he suggested, Buhari should look beyond party lines and loyalty in putting his team in place.

He stressed that a situation where a Minister has “An Adviser, Senior Adviser, Personal Assistant and Senior Personal Assistant should never be repeated by this administration, adding “He must bring all those who have dubiously looted the country’s treasury to book”.

The Clergyman who spoke at a Press briefing to highlight activities lined up to mark the 13th Synod of the Diocese reminded Buhari that many Nigerians had explicit confidence in him that he would be able to move the country forward hence “he cannot afford to fail.”

The Synod which holds at the All Souls Anglican Church, Abeokuta between Friday, May 1 and Sunday, May 3 has, as its theme “Commutation: Its Liturgical Implications.”

The Bishop stated, “The new President must reduce the cost of governance by not having an “over bloated” appointees as his predecessors did, he must trim down the size of governance.”

He also suggested that Buhari should run an all inclusive administration by appointing competent, honest and hardworking Nigerians despite their party leanings.

The Cleric challenged Buhari to prove to Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) slogan of “change does not mean change of political party alone but also change in the system.”

Adekunle recalled Buhari’s achievements as Military Head of State and advised him to re-introduce “The War Against Indiscipline” (WAI), which forced Nigerians to behave according to the rules at all times during his regime.

Must each State produce a minister?
And for what? Offices should not be created to pacify some and make others pauper.
I am sure that the incoming Government will think deeply before acting. God
    help us.

…Minsiter of State portfolio in all Ministries should be scrapped immediately. Also all Ministries should be rationalized e.g Internal Affairs Ministry have been carved into so many independent Ministries & Commissions with huge budgets, Ministry of Works has also been carved up likewise…we should Have Ministry of Works & Infrastructure development and all commissions like Niger Delta Development Commission should be rolled back into it with infrastructure projects professionally handled…

The Budget submitted by outgoing administration reflects how Government have just been sharing money to special interests….this need to be urgently addressed after the Ministries are re-aligned.
