Adeyemi lost the senatorial seat election in the district to Dino Melaye of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 41,120 votes to 38,148 votes.

map-kogiTHE senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Mr. Smart Adeyemi, yesterday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election result in Kogi Local Council of the district.

Adeyemi lost the senatorial seat election in the district to Dino Melaye of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 41,120 votes to 38,148 votes.

While addressing journalists yesterday in Lokoja on behalf of the defeated senator, Dada Fetihi said report from their agents in some units in Kogi Local Council clearly showed that election in the area was far from being credible and fair as there were cases of intimidation, multiple voting and late arrival of materials.

“In Ereha, Okparake market square in Koton-karfe south wards, electorate were never accredited as there was outbreak of unrest throughout the day but ballot boxes were stuffed with thumb-printed papers by the APC thugs.

“Our prayer is that election in Kogi Local Council be cancelled because the result in the area is against the tenet of Electoral Act, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and rule of fairness and equity,” he said.

But a group, Okun Youth Forum, has called on Adeyemi to accept the election result as the wishes of the people and congratulate the APC candidate, Mr. Dino Melaye.

The president of the association, Mr. Paul Bamidele in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja, said Adeyemi’s defeat was expected due to his abysmal performances in the Upper Legislative Chamber in the past eight years.
