AHEAD of Saturday’s general elections, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has advised all broadcast stations across the country to only announce results, released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

They were also advised to adhere strictly to the NBC’s Code and the Electoral Act on release of election results; emphasizing that only INEC is empowered by law to release election results.

In a statement signed by its Director/Head, Public Affairs, Awwalu Salihu, Section 5.2.15 of the code states, “A broadcaster shall broadcast election results or declaration of the winner only as announced by the authorized electoral officer for the election.”

He noted that broadcasters are also reminded that the Social Media is not an official source of election results, as they are advised to announce results as released by the electoral umpire.
