MTN-Nigeria-Intoduces-sposeored-Data-Chat-on-2go-Mobile-Messenger-almost-like-freeMTN Nigeria and ICT solutions provider, Huawei Technologies have both thrown their weight behind the celebration of the 2015 edition of the International Girls In ICT Day by eBusiness Life Communication Limited, publishers of eBusiness Life Magazine.

The fourth in the series, the 2015 edition, which will be Chaired by the Managing Director, Edo State Information Communications and Technology Agency (ICTA), Mrs. Olayemi Wonuola Keri, will include competition among students from select secondary schools, roundtable discussions, interactive and motivational talk from renowned women ICT professionals, among others.

An initiative of the ITU, the celebration is part of the international campaign to encourage young girls to delve into ICT as a profession.

The ITU declared the 4th Thursday of April every year as a day of encouragement to girls and young women to consider careers in ICT, while other stakeholders are reminded to support them in their choice.

In the past three years, eBusiness Life has organised the event yearly in Nigeria, gathering young girls from different schools, to educate and sensitize them on ICT.

MTN Nigeria’s participation in this year’s event is in line with the telecom company’s drive to empower and equip Nigerians, especially the youths, to become globally competitive.

Similarly, a statement from Huawei Technologies, said the campaign to groom a crop of young girls that will take the country to great heights in ICT is part of its vision and corporate social responsibility in Nigeria.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of eBusiness Life Communication, Mrs. Ufuoma Emuophedaro, , the need to sensitize young girls is premised on the fact that the society has unconsciously relegated the female gender and delegated careers in technical fields, especially in ICT, to their male counterparts.

She noted that efforts should be made to introduce young girls to career opportunities in technical fields in both the public and private sectors to help them have a wide range of options and contribute their quota in the industry.

Emuophedaro further stated that the International Girls in ICT Day celebration and subsequent campaign would further open up opportunities for girls in the ICT sector.
