THE Federal Government through the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen Saturday tasked the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to intensify campaigns on road safety rules and regulation, speed limits and other precautions to road users to address the increasing road accidents in the country.

The minister spoke during an inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Edo State. This included Uromi-Uzea road, old Uromi-Irrua-Ewu road construction where he said the spate of road crashes is alarming and urged the FRSC to increase its enlightenment programmes.

Onolememen, while expressing satisfaction with the level of work done by the contractor handling the Ekperi-Uzea-Uromi- Afoda-Usugbenu road construction projects and other link roads including the Ibore, Eidenu to Ewu road axis said accidents on federal highways were due to lack of orientation by road users.

The minister expressed Federal Government’s determination to ensure rural communities benefit in the ongoing federal roads projects, which he noted would boost economic empowerment of farmers.

He added that road construction in rural communities would help to facilitate the movement of goods and services as well as persons from one part of the country to another.

He assured local farmers of government’s commitment in providing access roads across major agrarian communities to enable easy transportation of farm produce.

“Our mandate is to provide access road to rural communities that are largely agrarian. Farmers in these areas need good roads to move their produce from the farms to the market place, and to industries”.
