Elections 2015: NSCDC boss commends voters, describes elections as peaceful

Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Saturday, commended the voters in the ongoing elections for their orderliness.

The commandant-general who went round some polling centres in Kaduna to monitor the exercise described the accreditation process as peaceful in spite of some minor hiccups.

He, specifically, commended the voters for being peaceful while they wait for accreditation in the scorching.

“From the polling units I have visited in Kaduna, I can tell you that the accreditation process has been very peaceful, even in some areas marked as volatile”.

“I, therefore, commend the voters for their peaceful conduct and again reassure them of our resolve to create a peaceful atmosphere for voting,” he said.

He attributed the peaceful conduct so far to the sensitisation by relevant stakeholders and the synergy among security agencies.

Abolurin said that the NSCDC had deployed more than 55, 000 personnel and 130,000 non- regular personnel accompanied with sniffer dogs to maintain law and order across the country.

He said that the NSCDC was also working closely with other security agencies to ensure peaceful, credible and transparent elections especially in violent prone areas.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) observed that the card readers in some areas did not function properly by which the voters filled incidence form before accreditation.

Some of the polling units visited by Abolurin included Police Gate 2, GRA, Barkin Ruwa, Angwar Muazu, Galadima and Angwa Dosa, among others.
