DHL partners SOS Children’s Village on educational support

In a DHL’s press statement, a copy of which was made available to The Guardian, it was stated that the partnership agreement with DHL Nigeria’s business units – DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Supply Chain – and SOS Children’s Village Nigeria, will focus on supporting youths between the ages of 15 and 25 in business, on the job work experience and career orientation in a real environment.

Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL), the world´s leading logistics provider, has signed and kick started a partnership agreement with SOS Children’s Village – an international non-profit child welfare organization, to provide career development and educational support for the youths of SOS Children’s Village in Nigeria.

In a DHL’s press statement, a copy of which was made available to The Guardian, it was stated that the partnership agreement with DHL Nigeria’s business units – DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Supply Chain – and SOS Children’s Village Nigeria, will focus on supporting youths between the ages of 15 and 25 in business, on the job work experience and career orientation in a real environment.

Specifically, DHL employees will volunteer their time to mentor and guide the youth through career exposure, job shadowing and trainings, which will make them employable and empowered.

The activities are tailored to the local needs and reflect the opportunities available in Nigeria.

The goal is to help open up employment opportunities for the young people as they enter the job market and make it possible for them to gain necessary skills, confidence, even as they become economically independent.

Present at the kick-off event was DHL Express Country Manager, Randy Buday, DHL Global Forwarding Country Manager, Heather Frankle, DHL Express Aviation Country Manager, Frank Abenemi and SOS Nigeria National Director – Mr. Eghosa Erhumwunse.

At the event, Country Manager of DHL Express Nigeria, Randy Buday, said: “The collaborative efforts between DHL Nigeria and SOS Children’s Village aim to empower disadvantaged youths in the country to provide them with the key to future successes in life. With this initiative, we aim to provide relevant skills and confidence for them to enter the working world.”

Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL) launched the global partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in January 2011, as part of its GoTeach initiative, focusing on providing career guidance and quality learning environment for youths in its operating countries. This partnership in Nigeria is an extension of the successful execution of DPDHL’s global initiative across 22 countries, including Madagascar, Jordan, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil and many others.

Eghosa Erhumwunse, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria added: “The Go Teach Programme is truly an enabler for young people and this will surely help them shape their own future.  Even more exciting is the synergy between SOS Children’s Villages International and DHL International to share in the development of young people in Nigeria and their communities.”
